Utah has a new sound Stage (Stone 5 Studios) recently completed in Provo Utah, approximately 35 minutes from Salt Lake City. Utah also has a few converted warehouses that have been used for production offices and stage space.

8. Do you have equipment houses in your state? Utah has 2 grip/electric/camera rental houses.

10. Please specify your weather patterns. The Summers in Texas provide long stretches of clear skies and warm temperatures throughout the state. Our rainy season is mainly in the Spring (March-April) and sometimes the early Fall (September-October) as seasons begin to change. Generally, though, showers are short and intense, and rainy periods don’t usually last more than one or two days. The Winters in Texas are fairly mild with only occasional, short-lived Winter weather that is usually limited to the northern regions of the state. South Dakota has four different seasons, each with its own special look and feel. Temperatures can be high in the summer and moderate to low in the winter with low snowfall in most instances. The high country of the Black Hills can receive 15 feet of snow during the winter. Skies are generally clear with excellent visibility.

11. What are the child labor laws in your area?
Maximum hours for children under sixteen–Exceptions–Misdemeanor. No unemancipated child under sixteen years of age may be employed for more than four hours in any school day, twenty hours in any school week, eight hours in any nonschool day, forty hours in any nonschool week, or after 10 p.m. in any day that precedes a school day. The provisions of this section do not apply to children employed as actors or performers in motion pictures, theatrical, radio, or television productions. The provisions of this section do not apply to roguing or detasselling of hybrid seedcorn for any nonschool day or nonschool week. The employment of a child in violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor.

Child under fourteen years of age–Prohibited employment–Mercantile establishment, hours of employment–Misdemeanor. No child under fourteen years of age shall be employed at any time in any factory or workshop or about any mine, nor be employed in any mercantile establishment except during hours when public schools are not in session and in no case after seven o’clock p.m. Violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor.

The rich South Dakota culture has been a draw to filmmakers for decades. Films such as Thunderheart, Lakota Woman, Hidalgo and Skins all filmed here and explored the culture differently. Filmmakers chose South Dakota because of the rich culture that still exists here and because of the fascination with the culture and the intriguing history.

The Film Office continuously works to promote South Dakota to filmmakers. We work with people across the state interested in this industry in order to promote the quality workers here. The South Dakota Film Office caters to independent filmmakers, documentary productions and historical portrayals. We also promote to larger productions and are taking steps to make the state even more film-friendly through implementation of recently approved tax incentives.

The South Dakota Film Office is . The Web site serves as a resource for filmmakers when they are looking for crew and services to work on their production. With the overhaul of the site, we are updating all of these listings.

On behalf of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office, the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and our elected officials, I invite you to film your production in our beautiful Ocean State.

From our diverse locations to our outstanding restaurants and cultural attractions, I’m certain you’ll find Rhode Island to be a fun, film-friendly neighborhood. Our state is merely forty-eight miles long and approximately forty miles wide, so please try to see as much of it as you can while you’re here. Each area is diverse, rich with history and visually unique. One twenty-minute road trip can take you from a vibrant cityscape to a scenic ocean drive and, if you keep going, you may find yourself at one of our magnificent mansions. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.
