1. Does your state offer tax incentives? A production tax incentive bill is currently being reviewed by the California Legislature. The Scene in San Francisco incentive is a refund of all city costs in the city and a portion of hotel, sales tax & all San Francisco payroll taxes with a per production cap of the total contribution of taxes paid to the city. 2. Are there sales tax discounts?
Five percent sales tax exemption on the purchase or lease of post-production equipment for qualified persons. (Exemption is taken by the seller of the equipment and passed on to the buyer at the point of purchase.)
3. Are there hotel tax discounts?
No State hotel tax on occupancy. Most cities or counties that impose a local hotel tax have a tax exemption for occupancies in excess of 30 days.
4. Are there any state or local fees offered at no charge?
Free permits for California State properties.
No Location fees for California state properties.
The City of Los Angeles waives location use fees at many frequently filmed City facilities including City Hall, city-owned office buildings and property and all public library facilities.

6. Crew base
Number of union crews (i.e. - how many productions can be served?) California has the largest crew base in the world — able to accommodate over 100 simultaneous productions.
7. Do you have sound stages?
Los Angeles has over 375 stages with over 4.2 million square feet of space.
San Francisco has 30 stages with total square footage of 465,000.
San Diego has 13 stages ranging in size from 1100 – 15,000 square feet.

• On site California Highway Patrol (CHP) Film Liaison available to assist with filming on State freeways and highways. This liaison also arranges CHP officers to monitor film shoots.
• On site California State Fire Marshal available to provide advice and approval for pyrotechnics and other special effect permits for State properties.
