Incentives & Rebates
In absence of pending formalized tax incentives for on-location productions, proposals for subsidies are accepted and encouraged.
The extent of support offered by the film office is determined on a case-by-case basis, often amounting to a generous subsidy or incentive package that is inherently competitive. There is no sales tax in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and productions get special exemption from excise taxes, duty and bonds on importation of equipment and accessories.
The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism Film Office is pleased to offer valuable advice and local ground logistics including security (police), securing permits and scouting assistance that will off-set production costs associated with a shoot. If the Territory is selected as a primary location, the Film Office is pleased to credit the production for the expenditures associated with the scout, and may offer assistance with airfare, hotel and ground transportation for the shoot. The Film Office entertains proposal to assist and/or share in cooperative marketing programs in support of the release of the picture.
All such subsidies and programs are commensurate with the level of local spend, hires, hotel rooms, identifiable location(s), script mention and other impact on the local economy and/or the marketing of the tourism destination.
