4. Are there any state or local fees offered at no charge? Yes, state properties such as state parks are without fees. Does not include personnel however.
a. Police/Fire ? Not officially
b. Permits? Very few permit requirements, period. The City of Detroit has an informational location permit, no charge. The state requires permits for shooting in state parks & on state roads, modest fees. Some local jurisdictions have local permit requirements at no charge
c. Use of state or locations at no charge/reduced cost? Case-by-case. Nothing official . But state parks are no charge.
5. Is your state a "right to work state"? No, Michigan is a union state
6. Crew base
a. Number of union crews – per the film office: 2 1/2 large , plus, two small at this time ; Most in S.E. part of state. Plus, one crew in western region.
b. Number of non-union crews - probably 1 small or medium, not sure, pay more attention to union shoots
c. Allowances to bring crew from out-of state (union cooperation) Production companies bring in IATSE from elsewhere with no difficulty. The state film office does not encourage this, however. We prefer you hire locally.

a. How many, size, website? A handful, of varying sizes. Largest is 15K sq. ft. Several others of between 5K & 10K sq. ft. on both sides of the state ; See website http://www.michiganfilmoffice.org/, , Michigan Online Production Guide .
b. Measurements of stages? Varies; largest is 15K square feet, 42’ to grid
c. Alternatives to sound stages (warehouses, etc)? Many warehouses have already been utilized by studio features, network pilots, others.
d. d. Proximity to city center Most stages are close to city center, be it metro Detroit, Grand Rapids or Traverse City . Newest development is more outstate, in Manistee (between G. Rapids and Traverse City). First of 7 stages is now operating.
8. Do you have equipment houses in your state? Yes

10. Specify your weather patterns Interesting. Four distinct and gorgeous seasons. Temperate zone . Primary snow season is December thru February, but full clear weather can often span April through October.
11. What are the child labor laws in your area Please contact film office for details, too lengthy to enter here, but not stringent. Very sensible. Excellent relationship with state wage and hour division.

13. Please add any additional information, or a statement from your office hereFirst and foremost, Michigan is not financially incapable, and is currently paying out incentives from 2008! Please let that be clear. The crew base is increasing daily, with many transplants returning home, new arrivals from out-of-state, and a vigorous training initiative by institutions and filmmakers statewide, providing new talent highly qualified experience. It is a film friendly, location-diverse place to shoot a film or commercial. We have over 3000 miles of freshwater shoreline (most shoreline of any state after Alaska) , the incomparable 5-county, metro Detroit area , two peninsulas, and a film commission, crew and partners willing to walk or drive that extra mile for you every time. Locations wise, the state has already substituted for Maine, Boston, Southern California, Cleveland, San Francisco, Texas, Connecticut.
